What is the best age to start piano lessons?
Many children are ready to begin between ages 5 and 7, once they can focus for 30 minutes and recognize letters and numbers. Younger children may benefit from a trial lesson so we can recommend the best starting point.
Do we need a piano at home?
An acoustic piano is ideal, but a good quality digital piano with weighted keys works very well too. A small toy keyboard is usually not enough. If you’re not sure what to buy, our teachers can guide you.
How long are the lessons?
Most beginners start with a 30-minute weekly lesson. As students advance or prepare for exams, many families move to 45 or 60 minutes for more detailed coaching and repertoire time.
How much should my child practice?
For new beginners, 10–15 minutes a day, 4–5 days per week is a great start. As pieces become longer, practice time naturally increases. We give clear practice notes so parents know what to listen for at home.
Piano lessons in Mississauga are not only about developing musical abilities, but also make a powerful contribution to the overall development of a child or adult. Regular lessons help improve concentration, memory, perseverance, and discipline. For children in particular, the piano becomes a “basic” instrument: it makes it easier to understand notes, rhythm, harmony, and the logic of music in general, which then helps in learning other instruments.
In Mississauga, you can find piano programs for all levels: from the youngest beginners to advanced students preparing for Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) exams or college and university entrance exams. Teachers usually select repertoire based on age and interests — this can include classical pieces as well as popular melodies from movies, games, or cartoons. This approach helps maintain motivation and makes lessons a pleasure rather than a chore.
It is important for parents that good schools offer a flexible format: individual lessons, lessons for siblings, as well as online lessons if the family lives far away or has a busy schedule. Lessons usually last 30, 45, or 60 minutes, depending on age and level. The teacher not only explains the material in class but also gives clear recommendations for home practice so that parents understand how to support their child at home.
